Rupert Gliddon was musical director of the 57th Regiment Band in 1913, which became one of the best in Canada.  He founded the Peterborough Conservatory of Music in 1905 (closed in 1931 due to the Depression) and taught thousands of Peterborough children. He also organized the Peterborough Conservatory Orchestra, the Conservatory Madrigal Club, and other musical clubs, making Peterborough a major musical centre in Ontario and Canada.

One of Rupert Gliddon's descendants recently writes:

I'm not certain of the year in which this picture was taken. Rupert was born in 1866 in Devon, England. He came to Canada c1871. He married Therese Fredrika Otto in 1896. They had two children. He lived at least until 1937.

I also know that the 57th Regimental Band played for twenty years at the CNE and that he once conducted John Phillip Sousa's band there
