Richard has
worked steadily as a bass player since he was 14, and has taken
vocal training at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He has
played almost every style of music over the years, both in the
studio and on the road. In 1985 Simpkins began studying the upright
bass and concentrated his efforts on jazz. He has been working with
Fines on and off since1986 and continues to play in two jazz trios
as well.
