Born and educated in Peterborough, Lawrence Cherney is an internationally
known oboist and was founding artistic director of Soundstreams
Canada in 1982. Now one of Canada’s most important promoters of
music by living Canadian and international composers, Soundstreams
was awarded its second Lt. Governor's Award for the Arts in 2002.
The first winner of the Chalmers National Award for outstanding
contribution to Canadian music creativity, Cherney has been invested
into the Order of Canada.
