Allan
Kirby and Jim Yates have a total of over 90 years experience playing
music for
Ontario
audiences. They
have played in various groups at the Cobourg Water- front Festival,
the Shelter Valley Folk Festival, the Peterborough Folk Festival,
The Fred Eaglesmith Charity Picnic, The Mariposa Folk Festival,
Palmer Rapids
Bluegrass

River
Valley
Bluegrass
Festival, Orono Bluegrass Festival, and
more beer joints and concert halls than you want to hear about. Between
them they play guitar, banjo, Dobro, accordion, mandolin, harmonica,
concertina, Autoharp, dulcimer and pedal steel guitar.
Allan
and Jim met in 1976 on a radio broadcast where they were each
performing with different bands. They thought then that it
might be fun to get together and make some
music,
but it took 25 years before that happened. Finally, in 2001, they
began performing as a duo. The result was an eclectic mix of
acoustic music, ranging from folk, old-time country, rockabilly and
bluegrass, to jazz and swing.
Jim
and Al released their first recording, Sittin' In The Kitchen,
in July, 2005. This
recording reveals some of the range of music styles played by Kirby
& Yates, two veteran musicians who seek out unique musical
material and interpret it their own way.
