Kawartha Youth Orchestra in Peterborough Ontario

KAWARTHA YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Last Updated: NOVEMBER 2007: appeared recently in Events List

Conducted by Michael Newnham

The Kawartha Youth Orchestra was founded in 2002 to give young musicians in the Kawartha Region the opportunity to perform in an orchestral ensemble. Under the direction of music director Michael Newnham, who also conducts the Peterborough Symphony and the Niagara Youth Orchestra, these young players spend every Sunday afternoon rehearsing the great classical orchestral repertoire. The KYO offers these young musicians an advanced level of instruction and a quality orchestral experience in Peterborough. In four short years this orchestra has developed in confidence and musical maturity to the point where Michael Newnham says, "The KYO can rival any other youth orchestra around".

This season the KYO is made up of musicians whose ages range from 11 to 24 years old. They come from Peterborough, Lindsay, Port Hope, Cannington, Campbellford, Haliburton, and Trent University.
