James Kent is a solo singer/songwriter type, playing piano and burdening audiences with tales of heartbreak and woe. He lives and works in Peterborough, Ontario, where he owns and operates a cafe called the Spill. The Spill features live music 7 nights a week, so he's gradually learned how to do things like plug in "microphones" and give "more guitar in the monitors". James is forming a backup band to play his songs, featuring accordion, cello, drums, and guitar. And maybe one day he'll tour, or something.

James' songs are sparse and sad, framing his disarmingly personal lyrics. Heartbreaking without sentimentality, he focuses on distinct moments, vividly capturing moods and scenes.
