George Bertok, known as "Art Nouveau" when performing with Max Mouse and the Gorillas, was also a founding member of Sumac with Bobby Watson, Paul Healey and Donny McCallum. George has experience in various studio settings, including a sting in London England where he worked with Dee Long (Klaatu) (George Martin) among others. George was the leader of his own group in Peterborough with Blaine Pascoe and Paul Healey and also a founding member of Bacon Fat and Max Mouse and the Gorillas, as well as The Innocent Bystanders. George maintains his commitment to good music by harboring a fine home recording studio where he produces spectacular instrumental cd's and also passes on his knowledge to promising young music students.

George writes:

I started piano at age 10, & completed 10 years classical piano study at Mount St. Joseph and St. Cecelia convents in Peterborough with old pal Brent Bailey.

Because of that experience, I was able to appreciate rock music that combined the two genres,and to teach myself guitar while playing in various high school bands.

I spent the 70's and 80's as a session player at recording studios in Toronto and surrounding area, playing concerts & recording with the late Michael Behnan & Peter Cragg, and clubs with Buzz Thompson, Bobby Watson, Dennis O'Toole,"Prog" cover band Anthem, and Max Mouse & the Gorillas. In 1980, I played keys on Klaatu's "Magentalane" album{Capitol/EMI} and was penciled in to tour with them...Loose Change was next,{we opened for Brit blues band Savoy Brown -thanks to Mike Tavrov...}, which begat the Jackson Delta Blues Band. EXP, {an 80's version of Anthem} was then formed with John Crown & J.P. Hovercraft. What a pleasure that was !
The rest of the 80's was spent touring England & other parts of Europe on bicycle & on foot with camera in hand.
In 1990 I did a 6 month tour of Britain playing concerts and pubs with London jazz improv ensemble Voice, alongside Liverpudlian sax player Jim Gilbert. The band played the London Jazz Festival. During this time, I recorded demos & played pool at Klaatu guitarist/engineer Dee Long's studio in Hammerwood Park,Sussex (Dee was engineer at George Martin's AIR Studios, London.) Thanks Dee...I also jammed
at Ronnie Wood's home in Wimbledon, and played wed. nights at "Klook's Kleek" pub in north London{where the Beatles,Kinks,Who,etc used to play}

Back in Canada, the remainder of the the 90's was spent teaching music,assembling my home studio,collaborating with J.P. Hovercraft (Max Mouse and the Gorillas bassist), and Dave Bingham {Ugly Ducklings vocalist}, as Innocent Bystanders (songwriter collective}, as well as playing clubs with cover band Jericho's Wall.
