I was born in Peterborough on
August 7, 1985. I started tooling around on the guitar when I was
twelve years old and bass when I was thirteen. I started playing
seriously when I was 16 when I landed a steady gig playing bass for
Brad Crough at Telf's Place in Ennismore. We played a variety of
rock, blues and country every Saturday night for four months.
When I was
seventeen I played rhythm guitar for Shocker, a hard rock band that
I had formed with my older brother, Hank Yelland, Steve Cooper, and
Alex Scott. We did a recording of one of our original songs for our
demo disc at Mime Radio. We played at Adam Scott high school on
December nineteenth, then entered the Peterborough's First Night
Battle of the Bands competition and came in first place, despite
being together for only one month. It was covered by The
Peterborough Examiner, Peterborough This Week, The Wolf, and CHEX
News. We split up shortly after.
That summer
I played acoustic guitar for a country band called Brad Crough and
the Constellations. We played a few private parties around Ennismore,
and record some of our material at Mime Radio in Peterborough. We
recorded three songs, two covers and one original. We split up one
month later.
In mid
September of 2003 I landed a steady gig playing bass, in the house
band with my older brother Devin McManus and Alex Scott hosting the
open stage at the Fleming campus pub "The Steel Center".
We played every Tuesday night, and have recently had the day changed
to Monday. We start around 9:00pm and end about 1:30am, so come and
check us out and get up and play if you want as well. We're always
happy to meet and hear new people.
In
October of 2003 I started playing bass in a rock band called Liquid
with Robin Hawkins (Lead Vocals and Guitar) and Devin
McManus (Guitar). We are currently writing and recording an all
original album and hope to be gigging by March of 2004.
When not
playing music I enjoy acting, drawing, dancing, and martial arts.
