Paul Rellinger of
Peterborough This Week
writes:
If Peterborough doesn't become
known as Nashville North, it won't be because of a lack of effort on
the part of an abundance of emerging young talent. Take, for
example, Alyssa Morrissey. The Holy Cross student is not unlike
Brenda Mullen and
Elyse Saunders, turning her
professional singing dream into reality, working with local
songwriter Cyril Rawson in anticipation of a planned trek to a
Nashville recording studio. Turning 15 next week, the teen has been
singing since age three but stacked boxes are no longer her stage.
After performing at the Norwood Fair in October 2006, Morrissey sang
anywhere she could. That led to 2007 wins at the Bewdley Talent
Showcase, Ennismore Idol and Peterborough Pop Idol. This year has
brought more of the same, starting with January's win at the Snofest
Idol event at Showplace. Since then, her focus has been on
recording, working with local musician Bob Brioux at his studio,
Platinum Productions.
